The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has launched a full investigation following the tragic death of a male student who reportedly jumped from a three-storey building after allegedly consuming crystal meth, also known locally as “mkpurummiri.”

The heartbreaking incident occurred late Thursday evening at a private lodge near Royal Kitchen Junction in Ifite-Awka, within the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a loud noise around the time the student fell. According to onlookers, the student had been acting strangely after taking unknown substances with his roommate. While the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, efforts to revive him proved futile, and he was later confirmed dead.

“We suddenly heard a loud thud yesterday evening, prompting a rush to the scene,” one witness shared. “He was found in a pool of his blood. When we checked his room, his roommate was found in a confused, incoherent state.”
Authorities have since detained the roommate, who remains in custody and is expected to be questioned once he stabilizes.
Chief Safety Officer of UNIZIK, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the university's intention to uncover the full details of the tragic incident. “We are still investigating to be sure of what happened, how it happened and the proper identity of the victim,” he stated on Friday. “It happened in a private lodge outside the school, and we don’t have control over who is admitted to such lodges.”
