In a major development towards restoring peace in northern Nigeria, several notorious terrorist kingpins operating in Katsina State have voluntarily surrendered and released 16 hostages in exchange for amnesty.

The Nigerian Army, through its verified social media accounts, confirmed on Saturday that the terrorists—identified as Kamulu Buzaru, Manore, Nagwaggo, Lalbi, Alhaji Sani, Dogo Baidu, Dogo Nahalle, and Abdulkadir Black—turned in their weapons as part of a coordinated disarmament initiative.
The operation was spearheaded by the leadership of Operation Fagge Fasan Yamma in collaboration with key stakeholders in the Dan Musa Local Government Area.
According to a report by Punch, the terrorists handed over 16 kidnapped victims, including seven women and nine children, and vowed to release the remaining captives by June 15, 2025. Among those freed was a woman reported to be seven months pregnant.

A military source disclosed that weapons surrendered included two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one pump-action shotgun, a PKT machine gun, and ammunition magazines.
In a video obtained by Punch, former bandit leader Adamu Alero addressed the repentant terrorists, urging them to embrace peace and warning the public against stigmatizing them during reintegration.
“All of you are my boys… but I urge you to consider this an opportunity to denounce banditry. Let’s forgive and support their reintegration,” Alero told the crowd in Hausa.
One of the former bandits, believed to be Kamilu, also expressed the group’s resolve to abandon their criminal past and live peacefully within the community.

The Nigerian Army confirmed that all surrendered weapons have been secured and that troops remain in the area to maintain peace.
This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing military and community-led effort to end banditry in the region, which has plagued northern Nigeria for years.
