Benue Links bus hijack kidnapping Otukpo Otukpa road

Panic spread across Benue State on Sunday evening as a Benue Links commercial bus was hijacked by suspected gunmen along the Otukpo-Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area.

The attack occurred around 6:30 pm at Eke, where the heavily armed assailants ambushed the vehicle, with registration number 14B-143BN, robbing passengers of their belongings before forcibly abducting all travelers into the surrounding forest.

According to eyewitness accounts, the victims were helpless as the attackers struck swiftly, leaving the bus abandoned.

Comrade Austin Agada, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reported to have passed the scene shortly after the incident. He immediately alerted security forces, triggering a rapid deployment of military and police personnel to begin a search-and-rescue mission.

As of this report, efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the abducted individuals, and residents of the area are calling for increased security presence on the highway, which has witnessed a rise in violent incidents in recent months.

This incident underscores the growing insecurity in the region and raises new concerns about the safety of travelers in Nigeria’s North Central zone.
