British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has gone viral for his unexpected praise of Ghana, revealing he was misled by fellow Nigerians about the country.

During a high-profile visit to Accra for the "Legacy Rise Sports: Battle of the Beasts" event, Joshua met with former President John Dramani Mahama and openly admired Ghana's culture, hospitality, and development.

In a now-trending video, the two-time world heavyweight champion expressed shock at Ghana’s vibrant energy. “Everyone in Nigeria puts Nigeria above Ghana,” Joshua said. “But I’m now here, and I’m looking around like—they’ve been lying to me.” 

The candid confession has reignited the friendly rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana on social media, with many users celebrating Joshua’s openness.

According to PM News, Joshua’s visit was marked by engagements with locals, community leaders, and participation in youth-driven sports initiatives. He highlighted Ghana’s impressive airport facilities, organizational structure, and national pride.

“I can’t wait to go back and tell everyone across the world how beautiful this place is,” he added.

His praise didn’t go unnoticed. Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama gifted Joshua a luxury Honda motorbike, reportedly worth between $10,000 and $18,000, in appreciation of his support for the sports movement led by Sharaf Mahama.

A now-iconic moment saw Joshua riding the bike through the streets of Accra. Additionally, Sharaf Mahama was seen teaching self-defence techniques to his younger sister, Farida Mahama, further endearing him to Ghanaians online.
