Ogun NSCDC Arrests “Ifa Science” for Gruesome Ritual Attack on Two-Month-Old

Ogun NSCDC officers leading “Ifa Science” into custody after alleged ritual attack on infant

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested Samuel Adebisi Adewunmi—known locally as “Ifa Science”—for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on a two-month-old infant for ritual purposes. The suspect was detained on May 1, 2025, in Abeokuta after the baby’s father raised the alarm upon discovering a deep cut at the back of his child’s head.

According to the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Dyke Ogbonnaya, the tip-off came from Kola Taiwo, who noticed the wound and immediately alerted security forces. “The officers and men of the corps moved in swiftly and apprehended the suspect, who is now under investigation with our Intelligence and Investigations Department,” Ogbonnaya stated.

NSCDC State Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo emphasized that the offence carries severe penalties under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State. She urged all parents to remain vigilant about their children’s whereabouts and warned that anyone found culpable of bodily harm would face the full weight of the law.

PUNCH Metro recalls a similar 2014 case in Abeokuta, where trainee herbalist Ifagbenga Taiwo was arrested for allegedly slaughtering his 41-day-old son for ritual use. The resurgence of such heinous acts underscores ongoing challenges in safeguarding Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens.
