Nigerian man Princewill Dominic avoids jail after hammer attack in Poland gym due to drug-induced insanity

A 21-year-old Nigerian national, Princewill Dominic, has escaped prison time after brutally attacking a man with a 20kg exercise hammer at a gym in Katowice, Poland. The shocking incident occurred in February 2025, leaving the 23-year-old victim with upper back injuries.

According to Dziennik Zachodni, police described Dominic as "very agitated and aggressive," requiring six officers to restrain him. The victim was hospitalized but suffered only a week-long health disruption.

The Katowice Poludnie District Prosecutor's Office dropped the attempted murder case, ruling that Dominic was under the influence of drugs, rendering him legally insane. Prosecutors stated he was "incapable of recognizing his actions," leading to his release after three months in detention.

Legal experts debate the controversial decision, questioning whether intoxication should absolve violent crimes. Meanwhile, Polish authorities emphasize the dangers of substance abuse in public spaces.
