A young man suspected of child abduction has confessed to participating in numerous kidnappings for ritual purposes in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The unidentified suspect, believed to be in his 20s, made the shocking confession in a trending video after he was apprehended by residents on Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was caught attempting to abduct another child when he was cornered by the community. Before a mob could lynch him, a police patrol team intervened and took him into custody. In the viral video, the suspect, visibly battered, admitted that he had lost count of the number of children he and his gang had abducted.
He also named several members of the syndicate and revealed that their leader resides in Dagbolu, a suburb of Osogbo in Osun State. According to him, the gang leader paid him N10 million to carry out the kidnappings.
Confirming the incident, Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Adetoun Adetoun, stated that the suspect is currently under investigation. “We are cautioning residents against mob justice, as it can lead to the miscarriage of justice,” she added in an official statement.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
