In a heart-stopping nighttime operation that could have been lifted from an action movie, Nigerian military forces successfully rescued 16 passengers who had been kidnapped by armed bandits along the Rukuba Road in Plateau State.

The dramatic rescue unfolded under cover of darkness as specially trained troops engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle that lasted nearly two hours.

According to military sources, the victims - including women and children - were being held in a remote forest hideout when troops from Operation Safe Haven stormed the location following weeks of intelligence gathering. "We acted on credible intelligence and moved in when we confirmed the hostages' location," revealed Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the operation's commander.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of both terror and relief as soldiers exchanged heavy gunfire with the kidnappers before eventually overpowering them. Medical teams were on standby to attend to the traumatized victims, some of whom had endured three days in captivity without food or proper shelter.

This successful operation comes as security forces intensify efforts to combat the growing kidnapping epidemic across Nigeria's Middle Belt region. But with bandits becoming increasingly bold, can such victories be sustained?
