Cholera outbreak in Adamawa kills 12 and hospitalizes 304. The government ramps up efforts to control the outbreak with aid from UNICEF and health guidelines.

A recent cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of 12 people, with 304 individuals currently hospitalized. 

The Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, disclosed these figures during a media briefing in Yola, the state's capital.

The outbreak, confirmed last week, initially reported 10 deaths and 76 hospitalizations, but the numbers have since risen. 

The most affected areas include Girei, Furore, Yola-South, and Yola-North. Out of the 12 fatalities, six occurred within hospital settings, while the remaining six happened outside.

Tangwami further reported that 244 patients have been successfully treated and discharged. In response, UNICEF donated 200,000 doses of cholera treatment drugs to aid the state’s efforts in combating the outbreak.

The Commissioner urged the public to follow health guidelines, avoid drinking untreated water, and follow preventive measures to curb the spread. 

Two individuals in contact with cholera patients were quarantined and tested to prevent further transmission.
