Russia Warns France Over Alleged Political Persecution of Telegram's Pavel Durov

Russia has issued a stern warning to France over the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, cautioning against turning the legal proceedings into a politically charged persecution.

Durov, who holds both Russian and French citizenship, was detained in Paris on charges related to the failure to control extremist content on his platform. 

The Kremlin, voicing its concerns, emphasized that they view Durov as a Russian citizen and are prepared to offer support. 

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, "We hope this case does not devolve into political persecution."

Durov has been released on bail but must comply with strict conditions, including staying in France and reporting to the police twice weekly.
