Five Countries Back South Africa in Accusing Israel of Genocide

The International Court of Justice is set to start a case on Thursday where South Africa claims that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. Five countries, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Jordan, Turkey, and Malaysia, openly support South Africa, while Israel and the United States oppose it.

South Africa filed the complaint in December, accusing Israel of genocide during the Gaza conflict. They want the severe military campaign to stop, as it has led to the deaths of over 23,000 Palestinians, including almost 10,000 children.

The initial hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague will focus on the South Africa-Israel genocide case. This is crucial as the world calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Most other nations haven't clearly stated their position. John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Agency, called the case meritless in a video statement.
