NAPTIP Dismisses Deputy Director and Four Officers for Corruption and Bribery Offences; Announces 37th Conviction for Human Trafficking in 2023
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has announced the dismissal of a deputy director and four officers for several offences.
The agency's spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, released a statement to the media on Wednesday, detailing the corruption, accepting bribes, and other crimes committed by these individuals.
Adekoye added that other infractions included the leaking of confidential information to suspects, violating the oath of secrecy, and stealing official records. Such acts violate numerous laws and regulations, as well as the Public Service Rules.
As per the report by Punch news, NAPTIP Director-General, Mrs. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has announced that a law enforcement officer has been sentenced to prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto.
The officer was sentenced on two counts of trafficking as per the Section 26 (2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (2015) and will serve five years on each count.
This conviction marks the 37th for NAPTIP in the year 2023.
