European Union Commits €560 Million in Aid to Assist Syrian Refugee Hosting Countries, Focusing on Support for Syrians

During an international donors' conference in Brussels, the European Union pledged 560 million euros ($600 million) to help countries bordering Syria deal with the costs of hosting Syrian refugees due to the ongoing conflict in the country. 

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized that the aid was intended for Syrians, rather than the government led by President Bashar al-Assad. 

According to AFP reports, Despite the United Nations' efforts, the EU will continue to maintain sanctions on Assad's regime and will not support the return of Syrians to the country unless these efforts are voluntary, safe, and monitored by international groups. 

The EU's position on Syria remains unchanged, requiring genuine political reforms to be in place.
