Winners emerge in Boomplay’s ‘#PassTheMic’
Winners have emerged in a rap cypher challenge tagged, ‘#PassTheMic’, and which is organised by a music streaming service, Boomplay. Recall that the competition kicked off on Monday, May 16, 2022.
The winner is Foster Chima, while Mayowa Amund emerged as the first runner-up, and David Awoudu is the second runner-up. Segun Awodu and Barnabas Micheal came in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The company noted that the initiative was created as part of its mission to connect music lovers to their favourite songs, and impact the next generation of music talents in Nigeria and Africa.
Speaking at the grand finale of the event, the firm’s Marketing Manager, Oluwatosin Afuwape, said, “Reviving the culture of rap in Nigeria is a recurrent conversation in the music industry, especially since its arrival in Nigeria in the eighties, has seen the genre rise to more commercial-friendly sounds and lyrical ‘chops’ delivered in various languages.
“The expansive growth of the rap genre has since influenced and birthed some of Nigeria’s most prominent entertainment exports, and it continues to be a platform for aspiring and emerging music talents in the country and beyond.
As a dominant player in Nigeria’s music industry, we are unwavering in our mission to help unlock the potential of Africa’s music ecosystem, and the debut of this rap initiative is an addition to a stream of opportunities we offer the industry.”
The competition will get ‘creative support’ from rapper, Jude Abaga, aka The Guy (formerly known as MI).
The organisers also stated that the competition is open to all emerging lyricists and music talents in the country. The top three contestants will receive cash prizes of N1m, N500,000 and N200,000 respectively. In addition, the top five contestants will also have the opportunity to be in an audio and video rap cypher recording with The Guy. Punchng
