Serial killer, rapist on the prowl in Remo, Ogun State - Police warn women using okada
The Ogun State Police Command has raised an alarm that a yet-to-be-identified serial killer is currently on the prowl in the Remo axis of the State.
Remo is located in the Ogun East Senatorial District, consisting of Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas of Ogun.
Recently, a female student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, was raped and killed in the axis by unknown persons.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said “the modus operandi of the serial killer is to pretend as a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as okada rider and pick his targeted victim as a passenger.”
Such victims, Oyeyemi said, are mainly women, who would be “taken to an isolated area, raped and brutally murdered in cold blood.”
The police spokesperson informed that the command is making efforts to apprehend the hoodlum; saying, however, that it is necessary to alert the public to be on their guard and be wary of any okada rider with whom they want to embark on a journey, especially at night.
“For safety reasons, the command hereby advises that passengers should endeavour to demand the phone number of any okada rider who wants to carry them in the night.
“They should also make a call to such number to ascertain its authenticity.
“This will give security agencies a lead in their investigation in the event of any untoward development,” Oyeyemi advised.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has assured Ogun residents that everything would be done to fish out the serial killer within the shortest possible period.
He urged the masses to cooperate with the police by giving useful information that can assist in the onerous task.
