In Ogun: Woman arrested for maltreating baby

A 35-year-old woman, Monsurat Olusanya, has been arrested by detectives of Ogun State police command for inflicting severe injuries on the body of a four-year-old girl, Fathia Ogundimu, who is reported to be her niece.

Her arrest followed a complaint from a Community Development Association (CDA) member of Tiluwalase town in Owode Ijako (name withheld), who came to Sango Division Headquarters with the little girl on Friday, October 18, and reported that the girl is on the verge of being sent to an early grave if appropriate steps were not taken to save the little girl from her ‘wicked’ aunty.

According to the Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, “the suspect who accused the girl of mistakenly pouring a pot of soup away put a knife on fire and used the hot knife to inflict injuries all over the girl’s body. Not satisfied, she gave the baby human bite on her stomach and lips.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Bashir Makama, has directed that the suspect be charged to court as investigation is concluded.

The police boss also appealed to parents to know the type of people they give their children to if at all there is need to do so as many of the so-called guardians these days are in the habit of maltreating children who are not their own. (TheGuardianng)
