Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) recorded a major victory against insurgency in the early hours of Friday, neutralizing 12 suspected terrorists along the Kirawa axis in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The successful counter-offensive was executed under the military’s ongoing joint maneuvers, Operation Desert Sanity and Siege Operations.
The tactical engagement began when heavily armed insurgents, suspected to be elements of ISWAP and Boko Haram, attempted a stealth infiltration of positions held by the 153 Task Force Battalion and associated civilian joint task forces along the sensitive Nigeria–Cameroon border perimeter.
According to an official statement released by the Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lt Col Sani Uba, the alert troops swiftly detected the advancement and responded with overwhelming, coordinated firepower.

"Following the encounter, troops confirmed the neutralisation of 12 terrorists, while several others were observed retreating with gunshot wounds, as indicated by blood trails along their withdrawal routes," Lt Col Uba stated.
The demoralized insurgents were forced to abandon their assault vehicle positions, retreating in disarray back toward the Cameroonian axis.
The military successfully recovered an array of combat hardware, significantly degrading the operational capabilities of the terror cells in Sector 1.
The seized weaponry included multiple AK-47 assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers, a PKT machine gun, and belts of live ammunition.
Uba added that the entire operation benefited from synchronized air support, utilizing Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets alongside combat platforms from the OPHK Air Component and international partner forces.
